January is here. For some people, that means the usual New Year’s resolutions, but for the electrical industry, there’s a more pressing issue than those inevitably short-lived diets and exercise regimes. This year, a good resolution for electricians would be to comply with Amendment 3 of the IET Wiring Regulations (17th Edition). That means ensuring that each and every domestic consumer unit they install is enclosed in something non-combustible, like steel. Why? Because, if there’s a dodgy cable connection inside of a consumer unit and it starts a fire, a non-combustible enclosure can help to contain it and keep the flames from spreading.
These regulations came into effect at the beginning of this month, so there’s no time to waste. Fortunately, complying is easy thanks to Hager’s new Design 10 and Design 30 ranges.
