Kidde Firex KF1 Mains Ionisation Smoke Alarm
As the world’s largest manufacturer of domestic fire safety products, Kidde have been safeguarding people and property from fire and related hazards for nearly a century. Their Firex Mains-powered Ionisation Smoke Alarm (KF1) can be interlinked with up to 23 other Kidde mains alarms, be they ionisation, optical or heat. Once interlinked, the detection of the relevant danger by an individual unit will sound across all connected alarms. This unit requires installation by a professionally qualified electrician and complies with UK Building Regulation for new housing and associated standards (Grade D BS 5839, Part 6). The KF1 is designed for use in areas where there is danger of fast-flaming fires, but in kitchens a Firex Heat Alarm is recommended.
How it works:
Ionisation smoke alarms detect the invisible particles associated with fast-flaming fires, which can burn combustible materials quickly and without warning. They use a small amount (0.9 micro-curies) of Americium to ‘ionise’ the air in the alarm; the presence of smoke causes a change in the air and sets off the alarm.
