Kidde Firex KF2 Mains Optical Smoke Alarm
As the world’s largest manufacturer of domestic fire safety products, Kidde have been safeguarding people and property from fire and related hazards for nearly a century. Their Firex Mains-powered Optical Smoke Alarm (KF2) can be interlinked with up to 23 other Kidde mains alarms, be they ionisation, optical or heat. Once interlinked, the detection of the relevant danger by an individual unit will sound across all connected alarms. This unit is designed for use in escape or circulation routes, as well as areas where there is a danger of cigarettes producing slow smouldering fires. It can be used throughout the home, except in kitchens where a Firex Heat Alarm is recommended. The KF2 requires installation by a professionally qualified electrician and complies with UK Building Regulations for new housing and associated standards (Grade D BS 5839, Part 6).
How it works: Optical (or photoelectric) smoke alarms use a beam of light and a photoelectric sensor in a chamber. When there is no smoke, light passes through in a straight line. However, if smoke enters the chamber, the light beams are scattered and some will be deflected onto the sensor, triggering the alarm.
